Olympian Tommie Smith to speak at PUC
Dr. Tommie Smith, one of the two figures in the
iconic photo of the Black Power salute during the 1968 Olympics, will speak at
Pacific Union College at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16 in the Dauphinee Chapel of
Winning Hall on the college campus. The event, hosted by PUC’s Black Student
Union, is free and open to the public.

Valley Fire Threatens Lake and Napa Counties
On Saturday, September 12, a
fast moving wildfire broke out about 1:24 p.m. in the Lake County area of
Northern California. Known as the Valley Fire, it continues to advance, and currently
50,000 acres have been burned with zero containment. On Sunday, Gov. Jerry
Brown declared a state of emergency for the areas impacted by the fire.

PUC Fundraising Class Raises $5,000 for Nonprofits
Pacific Union College’s Communication Department has been offering their
Fundraising for Nonprofits course for years, but the spring quarter of 2015 was
different. Rather than simply learning the techniques necessary to fundraise,
students in the class were challenged to put their skills to the test by
partnering with real non-profits to raise money for authentic causes.

David Anthony Johnson Returns to Speak for Colloquy
Back by popular demand, musician and orator David
Anthony Johnson returned to PUC’s Colloquy Speakers Series on April 30.
Johnson, an alumnus of Oakwood University, has won multiple awards during his
30-year musical career, and has shared the stage with many names of note,
including Rosa Parks, Johnnie Cochran, Maya Angelou, Take 6, Brian McKnight,
Julian Bond, and others.
